Reflection: Five Little Ladybugs is a very short read that uses rhyming and counting.  The book starts with five ladybugs and counts consecutively backwards until there are none, teaching children that you can count both backwards as well as forwards.  Each stanza uses a word that rhymes with the upcoming number which promotes children to create correlations between words/letters and numbers.  What draws readers to the book, other than the bright pictures on each page, is that the ladybugs are raised from the page, almost like a pop-up.
