Reflection: This version of She’ll be Coming ‘Round the Mountain is full of action and sound words that get children involved and singing along.  The book has a western theme and describes a cowgirl doing hilarious things and uses repetition to familiarize children with the chorus “She’ll be _____ when she comes.” which is then is followed by a sound word, like “Squish-Splat.”  The chorus is repeated again with the sound word and then a short rhyming sentence is followed by the chorus line and the succession of sound words from the previous pages.  The eye-catching colorful illustrations drawn in watercolor show whimsical scenes as described in the text and welcoming children and animals celebrating the arrival of the cowgirl visitor.  The book introduces colors, numbers, and lots of vocabulary to young ones and is a fun read-aloud that encourages participation with an instructional guide at the end of the book with pictures demonstrating gestures that should accompany the sound words, “Toot- Toot!” etc.  The reader is told to read the story again but to include the actions this time.
