Reflection: American the Beautiful is an illustrated edition of the classic poem drawn with acrylic paints of iconic American landmarks and man-made wonders.  The patriotic poem was later set to music, as a familiar hymn and is recognized as being a celebration of America’s natural wonders.  Each stanza of the poem is paired with a panoramic illustration of a landscape as described in the poem.  For example, “For amber waves of grain,” the pages are painted with bison grazing in the Great Plains.  The book’s magnificent colors and coast to coast scenery make the poem an interesting sing-along that children recognize.  The last few pages of the book name the locations of the landmarks and give a brief description of each.
